As a result of the efforts of the educated persons and knowledge seekers of Charing, the college was established a long way back in 1964. Previously known as Charing College. It is one of the few old colleges of Upper Assam. Later on Charing College’ was re-christened as “SwahidManiram Dewan College, Charing (S.M.D. College) which got namest after the greatest martyr Maniram Dewan
