Swahid Maniram Dewan College, Charing

Having historical significance, Charing is the birthplace of many eminent personalities. As a result of the efforts of educated persons and knowledge seekers of Charing, the college was established in the year 1964.

Previously known as Charing College, it is one of the oldest and most reputed institutions of higher education in Upper Assam. Over the years, the college has played a significant role in promoting academic excellence, social awareness, and cultural development among the students of the region.

Later, Charing College was re-christened as Swahid Maniram Dewan College (S.M.D. College) in honour of the great martyr Maniram Dewan, whose contribution to the freedom movement and the history of Assam remains unforgettable.

Today, S.M.D. College continues its journey with a commitment to quality education, character building, and holistic development of students. The institution strives to create responsible citizens equipped with knowledge, values, and skills to meet the challenges of the modern world.
